Jean Ann Welsh|
September 6, 1932 - October 27, 2013
Jean Ann Welsh, 81, died peacefully on October 27, 2013, at Providence St. Vincent's Medical Center in Portland after a fall at her home. She was surrounded by her family, whom she loved and who loved her. We miss her tremendously and always will.
Jean was born on September 6, 1932, to Joseph and Mary Ringwald in Salem, Oregon. In 1953, she married Richard Welsh and shortly thereafter they moved to Albany, Oregon, where they lived until 1968 before returning to Salem/Keizer. In 2006, they moved to Tigard, Oregon.
Jean worked for what was then Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company for 25 years. She loved her job and enjoyed her colleagues, many of whom became lifelong friends. After she retired, she took up a number of activities and hobbies including yoga, calligraphy, and walking. She loved doing crossword puzzles and spending time at the family beach house. She was a huge fan of both the Portland Trailblazers and Seattle Mariners and loved to watch them play.
Jean was a great mom. She had a knack for guiding and supporting her kids without interfering and her family was always the central part of her life. In August, she and her husband Richard celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Jean met with a series of health challenges in her later years which she handled with enormous grace, patience, and acceptance. If ever there was a role model for dealing with adversity, she is it.
Jean is survived by her husband, Richard, and her children, Kim Welsh, of Eugene, Megan Goetz and husband Stephen, of Tigard, son Timothy Welsh, of Beaverton; three grandchildren, Andrew, Geoffrey, and Alexandra; her brother, Donald Ringwald, of Salem; and many nieces and nephews. Her son, Kevin, preceded her in death in 1988, along with her two brothers, Richard and Raymond.
There will be a Rosary service on Sunday, November 3rd, at 5:00 PM, at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, at 10 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1025 Columbia St. NE. Jean will be laid to rest at Belcrest Memorial Park at 12:30 PM.
