Laura Anna (Von Flue) Bolliger passed away in Salem, Oregon on July 1st at the age of 85. She was born in Silverton, Oregon on October 15, 1927 to Walter and Elise (Stadeli) Von Flue. She was the eighth of their 11 children and a twin.
Prior to marriage, Laura picked hops, delivered milk, worked in a hospital laundry, and as a cook. On October 16, 1953 she married Edwin A. Bolliger. Together they operated their own nursery business, Evergreen Gardens in Silverton, where they provided carnations to florists across the state and nursery plants and flowers to the local community. Laura and Edwin raised two children in Silverton, Jennifer and Charles. When her husband passed away, Laura became a nanny to the 2 children of Dr. Slate and Davida Wilson, Megan and Will. She retired in phases by 2002, but remained active.
Laura was a member of the Christian Apostolic Church of Hazel Green in Salem. She was a woman of faith who loved God, her large extended family, and her church. Laura will be remembered by all as a kind person with a sweet, gentle spirit. Laura also had a fondness for all things lavender, was blessed with an amazing green thumb, had a passion for baking for others (especially Grandma's apple pie), enjoyed trips to the Oregon Coast, and created works of art with her hands in counted cross stitch.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Bolliger; her brother Benjamin Von Flue; and her sisters Louise Kuenzi, Lucille Von Flue, and twin Lorene Von Flue. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Ian) Drake of Aberdeen, New Jersey; her son, Chuck Bolliger of Keizer, Oregon; her brothers Alfred (Marie) Von Flue of Silverton, Oregon and Arnold (Carolyn) Von Flue of Silverton, Oregon; her sisters Lena Von Flue of Silverton, Oregon, Aldine Gehring of Salem, Oregon, Rose Rustin of Portland, Oregon, and Marlene Kuenzi of Silverton, Oregon; her grandchildren, Janelle (Andre) Cyrus of Riverside, California, Brian (Martha) Davis of Aberdeen, New Jersey, and Alison Drake of South Amboy, New Jersey; 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 6th at 10 a.m. at the Christian Apostolic Church of Hazel Green, 6494 Hazelgreen Rd NE, Salem, OR 97305. Viewing will be Friday July 5th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Unger Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Bethany Pioneer Cemetery in Silverton, OR.
Remembrances, if desired, may be made to the Christian Apostolic Church of Hazel Green in Salem, or Mercy Corps in Portland. Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel.
