Margaret "Peggie" Carlson

December 11, 1932 - August 9, 2012

MT. ANGEL - Margaret Ann (Peggie) Carlson, 79, formerly of Sublimity, was born in San Diego, California on December 11, 1932 to Roy & Agnes (Mason) Parker, and was one of three children.

She met and married Ernest Carlson (2010) in 1958 in San Diego, California raising their 5 children in Santee, California and Sublimity, Oregon where they moved in 1976. Peggie was very active in the Catholic Church for her entire life and was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young. Once her children were grown she was a bookkeeper for the Muffler Center in Salem. She loved this job and the opportunity it gave her to use her quick wit on a daily basis. Her next job was a bookkeeper for Earle's Antiques which was perfect as antiques were her passion and she found many treasures that made it home with her.

Peggie enjoyed volunteering at St. Paul's Catholic Church, meeting with her friends, reading Agatha Christie mystery novels and having her family around her.

Peggie's kids remember her selfless pursuit to get them involved in events (softball games, concerts, swimming lessons, etc.). She was a PTA president, treasurer for the local school, Boy Scout Leader, etc. She got up countless mornings to drive her kids to practice, theatrical productions, and field trips and much more before the crack of dawn because we lived so far out of town. She never complained (unless you weren't ready). She was always concocting some type of new recipe she found in the newspaper or magazine and her family was part of the test kitchen. She taught us the love of board games, card games and outdoor activities which was no small feat with five children underfoot at all times. She had an infectious laugh and it was always our goal to get her going.

Peggie is survived by, her sisters: Penelope (Parker) D'Acquisto (La Mesa, CA) & Bonnie Towle (San Diego, CA); children: Cathy (Roger) Twitty (Colorado Springs, CO), Bill (Kim) Carlson (Silverdale, WA), Tom (Katie) Carlson (Manteca, CA), Amanda (Roy) Jones, Otis Orchards, WA & Patrick (Cindy) Carlson, Keizer, OR. Peggie also helped raise her two step-children who survive her: Dawn (Carlson) (Nellan) Govender (South Africa) & Paul (Melanie) Carlson (Kenai, AK).

Peggie had 14 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren that she loved dearly that survive her as well: Christopher, Kelsey, Matthew, Mark, Kaitlan, Sarah, Ruth, Daniel, Mikayla, Kayleigh, Tammi, Joe, Christian & Glen; great-grandchildren, Elijah & Blaine. Peggie missed the birth of her third great-grandson by just a few weeks - his name will be Parker.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 18th at 10:00am at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Silverton, with a burial to follow at St. Paul's Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 17th from 1:00-5:00pm at Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to the American Diabetes Society.
