MARY H. FRANCIS

February 13, 1919 - January 30, 2013

DALLAS - Mary Francis age 93, passed away January 30, 2013 at the home of her daughter in Dallas, Oregon. She was surrounded by her children and left this life knowing she was loved. Mary was born Marie Helena Anna Klinger on February 13, 1919 in Wilton Township, Waseca County, Minnesota to German immigrant parents, Herman and Marie Klinger. Her mother, Marie passed away February 15, 1919 due to complications of the flu leaving behind two-day old Mary and seven other young children. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Albert and Tina Frank who lived in Fergus Falls, Minnesota until 1923 then relocated to Red Prairie near Sheridan, Oregon when Mary was four years old. She was therefore, blessed with two loving families; seven biological brothers and sisters in Minnesota and the Frank family of nine children. She attended Red Prairie School, and Sheridan High School.

Mary married her childhood sweetheart, Wm. Rouleigh Francis, a logger from Buell, on July 19, 1941 in Vancouver, Washington. They had four children, Bill, Kathy, Marsha and Lisa. The family lived in Sheridan until 1954 then relocated to Newport, Oregon. Rouleigh died as the result of a car accident on January 12, 1960. Mary and her children then moved to Keizer, Oregon, where she worked for Salem-Keizer School District as a school cook until her retirement at the age of 62. After retirement, she began a second career as a cook for the Senior Townhouse and Meals-on-Wheels Program at Faith Lutheran Church in Keizer. She worked another 23 years, retiring at age 86. She truly loved the mission and companionship of the Senior Townhouse meals program. Her perseverance, work ethic and zest for life will remain an inspiration to all of us. She loved her family and had a special fondness for her grandchildren and those grandchildren she adopted. She enjoyed gardening, camping, sewing, and preparing spectacular holiday and family meals. She especially enjoyed trips to Minnesota to visit family.

Mary is survived by her son Bill Francis and her daughters, Marsha (Steve) Clark and Lisa Dailey all of Keizer and her daughter Kathy Hammer of Dallas, as well as her seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Adeline Enderson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents Marie and Herman, her husband Rouleigh, son-in-law Tom Hammer, her biological brothers, Fred, Bill, and Art Klinger, biological sisters, Clara Barbknecht, Alma Wenzel, Martha Coyle, and her sister-cousin Georgina (Frank) Goertzen. She was also preceded by Albert and Tina and the other Frank children who cared for her as their own.

We know that our mother and grandmother is dwelling with our Lord and has joined the family members she so dearly loved and missed, yet we will all miss her love, guidance and fighting spirit. We would like to thank her physicians of many years, Dr. Paul Huun, Dr. David Elmgren and Dr. Gary Servais for keeping her body strong and healthy and her caregivers who lovingly cared for her and provided companionship in her last years.

Visitation is planned for February 7th from 3:00- 7:00PM at the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. The funeral will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dallas, Oregon on February 8th at 11:00AM with burial following at Green Crest Memorial Park near Sheridan.
