Michael Don Schieno
July 25, 1953 - April 4, 2014
Mike passed away peacefully on April 4th with his loving daughter by his side. Mike worked for many years with his father Angelo until his dad passed away. He then began a long career in the wireless construction industry. He worked for MTS and LeBlanc Communications as a foreman, until finally settling down at WesTower Communications in 1996. He began his career at WesTower working from their Vancouver office as a foreman in the field. A strong work ethic, safety and using common sense were Mike's priorities for the crew members he supervised, and was known to send guys home on a bus, no matter where they were working, if he felt any of these were being compromised. In November 2000, Mike became the Director of Field Operations for the NW and eventually Regional Director for the Pacific Northwest.
When he moved from the field to the office he didn't forget what it was like in the field and would always back the guys up when they needed it. Mike was a devoted father and very understanding about the guys with kids and would try to get them home whenever he could for birthdays and other important days. Mike was known to help others out when they fell on hard times and often donated his vacation time to those in need.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Angelo. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer; his mother, Carol; his sister, Lauren and her husband, Martin; his brother, Bruce; his cat, Nemo; and his dog, Brinkley. The family would like to thank the staff from Hospice and the many people at WesTower for their kindness and support during this difficult time, with a special thank you to Don Klausing and Lisa Thomas. Graveside Service: Thursday, April 10th, 3:00 p.m., at Restlawn Cemetery, 201 Oakgrove Rd. NW, Salem. A celebration of life will be held at Rudy's out at the Salem Golf Club from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
