SALEM - Miriam was called home to her Heavenly Father at the age of 88 years. She was born in Richmond Hill, NY and died in Salem, OR. Miriam lived in New York, Virginia, California and Oregon. Her entire career spent in New York included: the Daily News, Sales Clerk at Macy's, and as a Bank Teller. She retired from Accounts Payable at Estee Lauder.
Mrs. Walthers was involved in various church organizations : Rosary Society of St. Theresa Avila Church in NY, Catechism teacher and taking care of the Altar Linens at St. Elizabeth's Church, Huntington, NY; Joyous Junque sales for Resurrection Church, Hardy, VA; Lake Ministries, Bedford, VA. In Oregon, she was involved with the Happy 39ers and St. Vincent DePaul Society. Her hobbies included doing ceramics and playing Mahjongg.
Miriam loved to travel with her husband Dan. They traveled to Italy 7 times visiting all parts of the country and visited Hungary and Switzerland with cousins. They also cruised Alaska for their 50th Anniversary.
She is survived by her children: Steven Walthers (Patricia) of Cathedral City, CA; Daniel Walthers III of Porto San Giorgio, Italy; Barbara Walthers of Salem OR. Grandchildren: Cpl. William M. Walthers USMC of Sherman Oaks, CA; Robert A. Walthers of Cathedral City, CA and Robert S. Walthers of Italy. Miriam was preceded in death by her infant son Daniel R. Walthers Jr., her husband Daniel R. Walthers Sr., her parents, Frederick M. Warnecke and Ida Hall Warnecke, her brothers Edward M. Warnecke and Frederick R. Warnecke.
Miriam's family would like to thank Michele Nixon and her staff at Harmony House for all the wonderful care and love she received. A special thanks to JoAnna Patricio who was by her side, holding her hand as the Angels took her home to her Heavenly Father. The family would also like to thank Dorene Walton & staff of Willamette Valley Hospice for their care & loving concern.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 7th at 11:00 am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4227 Lone Oak Rd. SE, Salem, OR. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Queen of Peace Catholic Church or Alzheimer's Network. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
