Robert George Dickinson

April 2, 1926 - April 20, 2012

SALEM - Robert George Dickinson was born to Roy and Rose (Edwards) Dickinson in Corvallis, Oregon. Bob was the eldest of four children.

Bob spent most of his early years in the Willamette Valley, moving with his family from Corvallis to Springfield. Bob graduated from Springfield High School in 1944. After graduation he joined the US Navy and went to preflight training at Carroll College in MT.

After discharge, Bob attended OSU and Eugene Business College. He loved to tell stories about working as a night bellhop at the Eugene Hotel to help pay for college; he particularly relished the free access he had to the hotel's kitchen. Bob always loved his food!

Bob met his life dancing partner, MaryAnn Bonney in 1946. After swinging, waltzing and jitter bugging for 2 years, Bob popped the question and they spent the next 63 years together. They set up housekeeping in Eugene where Bob started his lifelong career in Forest Products. Bob and MaryAnn had 2 daughters; Joyce and Cindy.

Bob's lumber sales career moved him around Oregon, from Springfield to Medford to Portland to Mill City. He always counted his colleagues, suppliers and customers as not only business associates but friends that he greatly enjoyed.

The final years of Bob's life were spent in Salem with MaryAnn, playing golf and taking fun vacations until age and health started to slow him down. A combination of factors lead to Bob's passing on April 20.2012. He is survived by his wife MaryAnn, Sister Peggy and her husband George Partridge; brother Bill Dickinson and wife Joan; brother Don Dickinson and wife Monte; daughter Joyce and her husband Larry Pederson; daughter Cindy and husband Lee Dardis; and grandson Grant Robert Pederson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the Sundial Mobile Home Community Center in Salem, OR.
