Ron August

June 4, 1941 - January 28, 2012

SALEM - Ronald "Ron" Anthony August, a resident of Salem, Oregon formerly of Dallas, Oregon died on Saturday, January 28th in Salem Hospital. Ron was born on June 4, 1941 in Martinez, California the son of Tony and Marie August. He graduated from Alhambra Union High School, in Martinez, in 1959. Ron attended Diablo Valley Junior College from 1959 to 1961, where he received an Associates of Arts Degree. On July 1, 1961 Ron married Betty Holley in Martinez, California. Ron and Betty celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this last year. In 1961, Ron attended Linfield College to earn his degree and to play football, but an early injury prevented him from doing so, and he later became a diver for the Linfield Wildcat's. After graduating from Linfield with his Bachelor of Science in 1964, Ron began his teaching and coaching career at Dallas High School, and later received his Master of Education in 1966, from Linfield College. At Dallas High School, Ron taught biology, mechanical drawing, health, physical education, driver's education, was an assistant and head track coach, assistant football coach, and head football coach; where he led the Dragons to a state football championship in 1986. He left Dallas in 1989, and worked at McKay High School as a teacher, assistant track coach and head football coach until 1996, when he retired from teaching. In the Fall of 1996, he started at Linfield College as assistant football coach, and later became the special teams coach until he retired in 2007. Ron couldn't stay away from football, so he continued to coach as a volunteer at Linfield, McKay, Santiam and most recently with Dallas High School football. Ron loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed music and played the guitar and trumpet. He liked cars and had built a VW dune buggy from scratch and overhauled a '56 Chevy. He was artistic, and enjoyed painting, drawing and woodcarving. During his summers he did remodel projects around the house and taught swim lessons. Ron also enjoyed water skiing which he did until 1990 when he had a kidney transplant, and he enjoyed boating and spending time at Triangle Lake.

Ron was preceded in death by his brother Bob.

Ron is survived by his wife Betty, Daughters, Denise (Brent) August, Dana August and Dyan (Scott) Tallon, grandchildren Jordan, Madison, Ashley, Grant and Stefani.

The Celebration of his Life is planned for Saturday, February 18th at 1:00 p.m. in the Dallas High School Gymnasium. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dallas Booster Club or the Kidney Association in care of Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. I can´t believe it´s been 11 years since you´ve passed away coach. I really miss you big guy. I remember attending your memorial service at Dallas High School. Just today I saw the highlights after watching my favorite college football Michigan defeat Alabama in overtime in the rose bowl. It got me thinking back too the last regular season game you helped coach us too an overtime victory on against McNary high school in the fall of 1995. Thank you for helping to shape our varsity squad into the men we are today. You´re the greatest man I´ve ever met.
