Stewart Leroy Bye October 5, 1939 - February 4, 2009 SILVERTON - Stewart's courageous 18 month battle with esophageal cancer ended February 4, 2009 at the young age of 69. Stewart was the son of Perl and Evelyn Bye of Silverton, Oregon. Stewart was born on October 5, 1939 in his home town of Silverton, Oregon. Stewart graduated from Silverton Union High School and went on to earn his Bachelors' degree at Oregon College of Education (now known as Western Oregon University). While attending college Stewart met his sweetheart Carol and married her in 1961. Stewart served proudly in the Army National Guard and after his service he accepted a position with Wilco Farmers in 1964 and retired after 38 years of dedicated service in 2002. Stewart was a proud member of the First Christian Church in Silverton, the National Rifle Association, Charter Member of the Elks club 2210, Good Sam Club, Silverton Alumni Association, and Western Oregon University Alumni. Stewart loved to hunt, fish, and camp with his family wherever his motor home ended up taking him and Carol. Stewart and Carol immensely enjoyed spending time camping with their kids. Some of his favorite camping activities were driving the boat while pulling his family and friends water skiing, fishing at Deka Lake in Canada, riding motor cycles at his property in Canada showing his kids and grandkids his favorite trails and lakes, and hunting at his cabin down at Lobster Creek. Stewart and his family have spent over 40 years visiting his two favorite properties at Deka Lake Canada and Lobster Creek. Ask family members and friends about the fishing, hunting and camping stories gathered over the years. Stewart is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol; son, Steven and his wife, Linda, and their children, Sarah and Sadie Bye; daughter, Karla and her husband, Phil, and their children, Brennan and Allyson Ridling; his sister, Diane and husband, Andy Ulven and their children, Dan and Mike Ulven and their families. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, Perl and Evelyn Bye; and his nephew, Darrin Ulven. A viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 12 at Unger Funeral Chapel, 229 Mill Street in Silverton. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 14 at the First Christian Church, 402 North 1st Street in Silverton. A Celebration of Stewart's life will follow immediately after the Memorial Service in the reception hall at the First Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stewart L. Bye Scholarship fund at Wells Fargo bank Silverton branch. The Bye, Ridling and Ulven families would like to thank Unger Funeral Chapel for their services in this time of need. Stewart is loved by many and will be missed dearly. Stewart was a man of the highest integrity who spoke few words but he loved his family to the fullest extent. Stewart, we love you and you will be with us in our hearts forever.
