SALEM - Thomas Charles Beyer "Tom", age 58, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 after a courageous battle from complications following surgery for esophageal cancer. He was born February 2, 1953 in Silverton, Or to Joseph and Mary Jane Beyer and was the second oldest of five children. He was the grandson of John and Mary Beyer and Charles and Martha Geelan.

Tom grew up on the family farm on McKee School Rd. near Woodburn where he worked along side his father and grandfather. During his High School and College years, he worked for his relatives on Butsch Bros. Farms. Tom worked for 35 years in the insurance business and was a Senior Field Representative for ISO (Insurance Field Office) until his illness.

Tom met the love of his life, Amy L. Borns, while attending Chemeketa and they were married on October 23, 1976 in Mt. Angel, Or. They resided all their married life in Salem. He was an active 3rd Degree member of the Gervais Knights of Columbus for 31 years and had served as past Grand Knight. Tom loved his family and enjoyed being the barbecue chef at many family functions. He enjoyed vacations with Amy including the Oregon Coast, Disneyland, Florida, and two special trips to Hawaii. Tom and Amy loved working in their yard and Tom took great pride in his garden raising vegetables to give to friends, family, and neighbors. He also loved animals and especially enjoyed their beloved cocker spaniels (Hayle and Jiggs) who received special permission to visit him during his one year hospital stay.

Tom is survived by his wife, Amy, mother, Mary Jane Beyer; and sisters, Jane and (Jerry) Schroeder, Shirley and (Richard) Corn, and Susan and (Kevin) Fredinburg. He is also survived by his special nieces and their spouses: Nancy and Joel Bowker, Rebecca and Will Dietz, Julie and Chris McLaughlin, Sarah Schroeder, Stefani and Lindsey Corn, and four great-nephews.
