SALEM - Wayne L. Cornu passed away at his home April 22, 2013. Wayne was born February 4, 1930 in Salem, Oregon, an only child to Louis Fred Cornu and Lillie Mae (Hersch) Cornu. He attended Pratum grade school and graduated from Salem High School. Wayne served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean conflict serving from 1951 - 1953 stationed in California and Japan. He married his childhood sweetheart Zelma L. Williams in 1952. Wayne worked at the Pratum Co-op from 1954 - 1993. He worked for a year in the seed cleaner and then worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for the rest of his career.
Wayne was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed serving and among his many callings he served as the Bishop of the Silverton Ward from 1976 - 1982.
Wayne had many interests. He was a talented photographer and continued this throughout his life. He did woodworking, and made furniture, toys, and other projects. He also loved old cars and restored a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS.
Wayne had a passion for the history of Pratum. He compiled old photos and articles, interviewed "old timers", and created a presentation which he gave to various community groups.
Wayne is survived by his loving children: Shelly Olson (Bruce) of Cashmere, Washington, Douglas Cornu (Robyn) of Salem and Paul Cornu (Bonnie) of Pratum, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
There will be a viewing at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial St SE from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday April 26, 2013. The funeral will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 745 W Main, Silverton, OR 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, with viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 9:40 a.m.
