William "Bill" W. Balschweid

July 12, 1933 - July 12, 2013

William "Bill" Balschweid passed away in his sleep at home on his 80th birthday, July 12, 2013 in Salem Oregon. Bill was able to come home with Hospice care after suffering heart failure. Bill was born July 12, 1933 in Lebanon, Oregon to Charlie and Eunice Balschweid . He grew up in Scio Oregon and graduated from Scio High School in 1951 where he played basketball and football. Bill joined the Navy on January 22, 1952 and finished his service in Pensacola, Florida on January 27, 1956 where he was honorably discharged,

Bill remained in Oregon after the Navy where he had a variety of occupations. He was a Postman, Construction worker, Painter, Private Investigator, Cook, Security Guard, Process Server and had his own Painting and Remodeling business. He loved the ocean, he loved to fish, to play the guitar, boxing, listening to old country western music, and above all, loved his family more than anything. Bill met his wife Rachel in 1989 and they were married in August 1990. One of his greatest joys was to be present at his daughter Sarah's wedding in February 2012.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Eunice Balschweid and his beloved Boston Terrier Susie. Bill is survived by his wife Rachel, children (spouse) Sarah Quinn (Terrence), Brenda Castle, Brett ApRoberts (Siggi), his brother Jon Balschweid (Deni), nephew Mark Balschweid (Mae Anne), nieces Laurie Goetz (Steve) and Felicia Balschweid, cousin June Bashkin, four grandchildren, three great nieces and nephews and his dog Daisy.

A memorial service will be held July 21, 2013 at 2 pm to honor Bill's life at New Hope Church 4963 Swegle Rd NE, Salem Oregon 97301. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home
