SALEM - Our loving mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully in Salem, on January 4, 2013, at the age of 94. She was born on March 31, 1918 to Clifford and Alice Newham in Hood River, Oregon.
She spent her youth in Oregon and Washington, graduating from Colfax Washington High School in 1936 and from Washington State University in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in English and Library Science.
She married our father, Charles August Paeth, on October 7, 1942 in Spokane, WA.
She had a long career as a librarian for Salem Oregon Public Schools and Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon. After retirement in 1986, she served in many volunteer capacities, most proudly as an ombudsman for Oregon Governor Barbara Roberts and participating in events at Willamette University.
Mom was the centerpiece of our family. She loved unconditionally and treated everyone with compassion. Never concerned about herself, she maintained a tremendous outlook on life, continually focused on her family and her community. She was an active member of PEO and a dedicated PTA mom during our school years as well as active with other organizations. She loved to travel and was able to visit Western and Central Europe, Scandinavia, Central America, and many parts of the U.S.A.
Her parents and husband, Charles, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Chuck (Nancy) in Olympia, WA. and, John (Shelley) in Toledo, OR. and her beloved grandchildren, Sarah, Molly and Daniel Paeth.
A celebration of her life will be held in Salem in late March. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First United Methodist Church of Salem, 600 State St., Salem, OR 97301 or
Arrangements by Golden's Funeral Home.
