Eric Bret Hannibal

October 29, 1962 - January 25, 2014

Eric Bret Hannibal passed away after a seven-year battle with cancer. One of four children born to Ray and Jeanne Hannibal, Eric grew up in Medford, riding horses, hunting, and playing sports, especially his favorite, baseball. When the family moved to Salem, Eric attended Salem Academy High School, where he was captain of the baseball team and graduated as valedictorian. Eric attended Willamette University, graduating with a BS in Mathematics, Chemistry and Computer Science, and a MM and MBA from the Atkinson School of Management.

Eric worked for the Board of Parole, then owned and operated Meridian Mortgage for ten years. He then revived a lifelong interest in caring for others, and earned his LPN from Chemeketa Community College, until his illness made him unable to continue his studies.

He loved all sports, especially baseball. With his wife, he volunteered as a local Little League umpire. He was an accomplished sailor, and custom-rigged a boat that could be seen racing about Detroit Lake for many years. A loving husband and father, Eric enjoyed family trips, helping his children with their studies, taking them to chess lessons and tournaments, coaching their sports teams, and cheering them on enthusiastically and loudly. His greatest delight was in spending time with his family.

Eric is survived by his wife Carol, son, Carson, and sister, Leslie Eve. He was predeceased by his daughter, Dana, brother, Stephen Brock and sister, Janet Lynne and both parents.

No services are planned at this time. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Hematology Oncology of Salem, especially William "Bud" Pierce, MD. Memorial gifts may be made to Salem Academy, Salem Hospital Foundation, or the .
