James S. Gallinger

May 7, 1926 - February 7, 2014

SUBLIMITY - James, 87, was born in Devils Lake, ND. He had one brother and four sisters, who preceded him in death. James served in the Marines during World War II, in the Pacific theater. That took him to the invasion of Pelielu and he was later honorably discharged. Moving to Portland, James met a girl named Betty Schnepp. They were married November 24, 1947 in Vancouver, WA, she preceded him in death in May 2007. He worked for Portland General Electric Company for nearly 40 years. After retirement, Yuma, AZ was the home spot six months out of the year for the next 17 years. James was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sublimity, the Elks and Santiam Senior Center. He is survived by children: Jim (Celeste) Gallinger of Stayton and Sherry (Ken) Sherman of Springfield; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Larry Perton at Canyon Adult Care Home for the wonderful care he gave to James. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 17, 2014 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Stayton. Interment at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland will be at a later date. Contributions may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
