Gary Melvin Hodson Sr.
December 31, 1941 - March 26, 2014
Gary Melvin Hodson Sr. passed away peacefully on March 26, 2014. He was born on Dec. 31, 1941 in his beloved South Dakota to Melvin James and Catherine Marjorie (Raetz) Hodson. He graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen and joined the Navy at the age of 17. In the early sixties he moved to California where he worked for Lockheed Martin and Savin until moving his family to Oregon in 1974.
He had a variety of jobs in Oregon including working in a lumber mill, National Guard, truck driving for 20 years and for the last 6 years he delivered pharmaceuticals for Hi School Pharmacy in Silverton.
He enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, a good game of Cribbage, telling a goofy joke, golfing, reading, and fishing, but his greatest joy was music. Whether he was playing his trumpet, trombone or ukulele, or singing with the Salem SenateAires or Silver Tones or directing music for Trinity Lutheran Church, he shared his love of music and his special gift with his family and those around him.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years Kathleen, his sister Eileen, his brother Jim and his children, April, Jay, Alexandra, Aaron, Rebekah, Shelah, Gary Melvin Jr., Katie, Megan, and Nicole. He is also survived by his 20 adoring grandchildren.
He will be missed by all who had the privilege to share a laugh, a song, or memory with him. His service will be held on April 5th at 1:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Silverton. Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel.
