Laura Luella Basl

May 28, 1921 - April 14, 2014

STAYTON - Laura passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Tacoma, WA to William and Victoria Schmid the eldest of 4 children. The family then moved North of Sublimity where she grew up working on the family farm. Laura graduated from Aumsville High School and returned to Tacoma to work as a welder in the shipyard during the war effort. She met and married Leo E. Basl on January 13, 1949. Together they had seven children and lived on a farm outside of Stayton. They divorced in 1972. She worked at Norpac in Stayton for 25 years. She had numerous jobs and retired as park hostess from Yellowstone National Park. Laura enjoyed family, collecting dolls, road trips, gardening, painting, playing cards, and was a great conversationalist. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers Bernard and Victor, sister Florence and son Walter. She is survived by her children; sons: Steve (Tami) Basl of Mill City, Greg Basl of Stayton, daughters: Doris Weitman of Stayton, Leslie (Lyle) Kirsch of Stayton, Tracie (Wayne) Reynolds of Sublimity, Marlys (Dan) Fisher of Salem, 14 grandchildren 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Vigil Service will be Thursday, May 1 at 6:00 pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Stayton. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 2 at 11:00 am at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sublimity. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery in Sublimity. Contributions may be made to the Humane Society. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
