George Dale Stacks, 83, of Salem died April 28, 2014. He was born in Winner, SD on July 4, 1930 as the oldest of 4 children to Wallace & Selma Stacks. His sisters Arlene Hughes & Joan Barnhard preceeded him in death. His youngest sister, Judy Dell, lives in Washougal, WA.
George joined the Army Air Corp in 1947 and retired from the Army in 1967. During his service he completed 3 tours in Korea specializing in radar technologies. Afterward he went to work as an instrument technician for Crown Zellerbach paper mill in Camas, WA retiring from there in 1993.
George was active with the American Legion, TREA - The Retired Enlisted Association and Pacific Air Weather Squadron. He enjoyed woodworking, electronics, computers, traveling, home renovations, bowling and golf. He was known for his loyalty and being very responsible. He loved his children and he was always honest with everyone. His dream was to own a motor home and never come home.
On St. Patricks day in 1954, George married Frances of Portland, OR, loving her for 29 years until her death from cancer in 1983. George married Anita on March 3, 1984 sharing a wonderful 30 years of friendship, companionship & love. George has one daughter, Lenora Stewart of New Orleans; Sons Robert of Kelso, WA; Mark (died in 1976) and Russell of Washougal, WA; three step-children Bob Baertlein of Forest Grove, OR; Brad Baertlein of Oregon City; and Cindy Baertlein of Eugene, OR. George is blessed with numerous grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8-11 am on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service with funeral services including full military honors performed by the Oregon National Guard at 11 am. A private inurnment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
