December 25, 1938 - April 21, 2014

SILVERTON - Dennis Wallace was born in Portland to Henry and Josephine (Yoder) Wallace, one of five children. He was raised in Yoder and graduated from Canby High School in 1956. He attended Oregon State College (later University) and graduated in 1960. Dennis and Janet Jensen married in 1961. Dennis earned his master's degree in 1969 from Oregon College of Education (later Western Oregon Univ.), and taught in the Madras school district for many years. He also had taught briefly, earlier in his career in Knappa, Oregon and Lakeview, Oregon. He enjoyed coaching high school tennis and ran tennis clinics during the summers in Madras, as well as sponsoring tournaments.

In addition to tennis, Dennis enjoyed league bowling, cross-country skiing, hunting, and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, where he was a volunteer of the year. Dennis and Janet moved to Silverton in 1993. They have been active members of Silverton Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Dennis is survived by, his wife of 52 years, Janet; son, Derek of Las Vegas; daughter, Renee Peck of Independence; grandson, Keri Peck of Salem; twin sister, Evelyn Barber of Creswell; brother, Joe of Long Creek; sisters, Jewel Cook of Canby and Dorothy Vazquez of Molalla; and several nieces.

A celebration of life will be held for Dennis, Saturday, May 24th at 2:00 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 303 N. Church St., Silverton, OR. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the church or to the OHSU Foundation, 1121 SW Salmon St, Ste. 100, Portland, Oregon, 97205-2021. Arrangements by Unger Chapel.
