Bill was born in Oakland, CA in 1938. He worked for AT&T for 33 years. He got his HAM radio license at age 13 and was president of the Gualala, CA Amateur Radio Club. He was president of the Pt. Arena Lions Club, a member of the Pt. Arena Chamber of Commerce and was United Way chairman for the entire S.F. Bay area. He was also an active member of the Telephone Pioneers.
After retiring in 1990, he and his family moved to Silverton He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Silverton Volunteer Fire Dept. and was a representative to the 911 board.
Bill and his wife, Carol, were married in 1966. He is survived by his wife and three sons: Sam Preece (Kim) of Silverton, Bill of Pendleton and Daniel of Silverton, two granddaughters, Ashley and Kylie Dickenson and one brother, Jim Perry (Cathy) of Portland.
Graveside services will be Sat. May 31 at 2 p.m. at Valley View Cemetery with a memorial following at 3 p.m. at Silverton United Methodist Church. Viewing will be 5pm-8pm Friday, May 30 at Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Silverton United Methodist Church or The Humane Society.
