Ramona (Mona) passed away peacefully at her South Salem home on June 11, 2014, following a brief illness.
Mona was born to Alfred and Evelyn Powell in Dallas, Oregon on August 12, 1931. During her life, she lived in Dallas, OR, Valsetz, OR, Culp Creek, OR, Lebanon, OR, a short time in Alaska and Salem, OR.
Mona married the love of her life David J. Moon in Salem in 1966. Together, they successfully owned and operated Moon Concrete until their retirement in the mid-1990's. Prior to owning Moon Concrete, Mona worked as a meat wrapper for Mayfair Market, Albertson's and Fred Meyer. Mona and David spent many happy years together, spending time with family, operating the business, traveling and playing golf together. They were both long-term members of Salem Golf Club, where Mona was Captain of the Women's Golf Association in 1988.
Preceding Mona in death is her father Alfred Powell, mother Evelyn (Powell) Coon, daughter Sherry (Elliott) Parker, sister Shirley J. Smith and husband David J. Moon in 1999.
Mona is survived by her daughter Shelley (Moon) Van Antwerp (husband Gary), granddaughter Leslie (Van Antwerp) Buckendorf (husband Jacob), great grandchildren McKenna Moon Buckendorf and Cru Jacob Buckendorf, all of Salem, and niece Susanne Watson (husband Terry) North Powder, OR. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mona will be remembered for her kindness and love she had for her family, children and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Pierce and Gentiva Hospice for her care during her short illness.
