Edith Jones Obituary
Edith Elizabeth Jones

May 23, 1912 - June 8, 2014

Born in Missouri on May 23, 1912. Died Salem June 8. Parents Walter & Mary Day Jennings. She was one of 9 children. They were in Oklahoma when she was young and times were hard in those days. She married Raymond Jones when she was 17 and he was 19. They were parents of Walter the following year. Raymond took any kind of work he could get in those depression days to take care of his family. One of his brothers had moved to Oregon and he encouraged Raymond and Edith to follow. In about 1935 they and another brother with his wife and daughter moved to Oregon. Again, work was scarce and Raymond did anything he could to take care of his family. In 1937 they had a second son, Dale. The family had been living in Marion, Oregon but moved to Salem to be closer to work opportunities. They both worked in the canneries and then Raymond got into trucking and the sand and gravel business with his brother.

Edith had always been a beautiful seamstress and went to work in a nice lady's doing alterations. She worked there for several years helping her boys with money for college. After she retired she enjoyed making things for ...She always made many of her own clothes and also enjoyed making stuffed toys and doll clothes for the children. Her collection of miniature elephants was . She was always busy and was known for her "green thumb". People said she could stick a chair in the ground and it would grow... so there were always flowers and plants around Edith. Raymond died in 1994 and she continued to live in their home which they had been in for many years....just as long as she could. Last years she was well cared for In an adult foster home in South Salem. She loved her family and the grand children, though she didn't see some of them very often. Both she and Raymond had a special relationship with Walter's daughter, Maureen, as she was in the area and they could spend lots of time together. Over the years she had dogs that enjoyed her kindness. It was very sad when her last dog, Tina, passed away. She then got her first cat who was with her until she moved to South Salem. Many thanks to the staff at Premier Care Homes who took such good care of her during her final years. She is survived by her son Walter (wife Glenda), two grandsons, Greg Jones (wife Kristin) and Randy (wife Katrina); granddaughter Maureen (husband Jim Brown). and five great grandchildren and two great great. Also Walter's four wonderful step grand children. At her request, there will be no service. She will be interred at Claggett Cemetery with Raymond. Remembrances to Willamette Valley Hospice at 1015 3rd Street NW, Salem 97304, or to to . Arrangements entrusted to Keizer Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services.
