Bessie Louise Mason
January 5, 1922 - June 29, 2014
Bessie Louise Beam was born January 5, 1922 to Frank and Ruth Beam in Weldon, Iowa. She was followed by two sisters, Carol and Lenore, all to become striking redheads.
She attended junior college in Osceola, Iowa then moved to Oregon where she met and married Virgil Mason and soon three daughters completed the family. The couple were long-standing members of St. Mark Lutheran Church where they made many lifelong friends. They later moved to Keizer, OR and attended Faith Lutheran.
Bessie worked as the bookkeeper for a number of years for The Little French Shop, a small downtown Salem dress boutique. She was a 30-year volunteer with the Faith Lutheran lunch program and was very proud to work along side her uncle Mickey Hickman in the poultry barn at the Oregon State Fair. Her greatest joy was gardening.
Memories of "Mimi" as recalled by her granddaughter include, playing Chinese checkers, sitting in the rocking chair by the wood stove, poultry cards typed "just right", Vienna sausage in a can, staying up to watch Masterpiece Theater, and vanilla ice cream with Hershey chocolate.
Bessie is survived by three daughters: Meridee Fox (Harold Smith) of Sisters, OR, Cindy Mason (Chris Hardy) of Salem, OR, and Celia Mason (Chuck Mendenhall) of Palm Springs, CA. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
No service will be held.
