Zelpha LaVelle Anderson, age 89, died at Silverton Hospital on Saturday, July 19th, surrounded by her children and many of her grandchildren.
Born March 25, 1925 to Justice and Olive Henderson of Enterprise, Oregon, she attended Warner Pacific College and Lewis and Clark College earning a degree in social work and education. Zelpha's career before marriage included social work, working with migrant children, writing and editing Sunday School publications, and teaching elementary school in Portland Oregon. It was while she was teaching that a mutual friend introduced her to Robert Anderson of Monitor, Oregon. They were married July 8, 1960.
Upon her marriage she became the mother to Bob's three sons, and a daughter was born the following year. She took on the role of bookkeeping for the family farm and generously invested her time in the local community, participating in school and church life and visiting the elderly. She was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Silverton.
She leaves three sons, Jim, Tom and Michael, one daughter Kathy, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Sunday, July 27th at 4:00 p.m., 303 N Church St, Silverton, OR 97381.
Memorial contributions are welcome to be made to the growing senior ministries program at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Silverton, or to the Silverton Hospital Care Van program.
