William "Cecil" Hinsey

December 24, 1929 - August 6, 2014

SILVERTON - William Cecil Hinsey was born in Ashville, North Carolina to Ralph and Marguerite Hinsey. He and his family moved to Denver, Colorado when he was a boy, and Cecil helped in the family run grocery store. He met his wife, Ola Faye, while they were graduate students in Denver, and they married in 1954. They moved west when Cecil started doctoral work in psychology at the University of Oregon. They settled in Silverton, Oregon, where they raised their three daughters and enjoyed life on the farm.

Cecil worked as a psychologist with children and youth, first with the MacLaren School for Boys, and later with the State of Oregon Children's Services Division.

Cecil always lived close to mountains, which fueled the interest he and Ola Faye shared for hiking, birding, camping, and hitting the open road in their RV. He also enjoyed tinkering with his model A pick-up and encouraging smiles, laughter, and groans with his stories, jokes, and puns.

Cecil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ola Faye Hinsey of Silverton, brother, Howard Hinsey of Parker, CO, daughters Carol Wnek of Bremerton, WA, and Peggy Kaney of Tahlequah, OK, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Charles Hinsey, and daughter Kathy Nickodemus.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Silverton United Methodist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to a . Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.
