July 13, 1922 - August 6, 2014

Joseph "Joe" Scovell passed away peacefully at his home in Turner. Born to Harry and Minnie Scovell in Nehalem, Oregon. After graduating from Nehalem High School, he entered the United States Coast Guard, serving during WWII. After an Honorable Discharge, Joe attended the University of Oregon and Northwest Christian College, where he graduated in 1951. He then received a Master of Science in Education from Butler University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Western Oregon University in Monmoth. He was an active member of Turner Christian Church. He also enjoyed fishing, watching football and especially spending time with his family. He married Maecel Bissell of Eugene Nov 26, 1948. Joe is survived by his beloved wife; 4 children and their spouses, Skip Scovell of Fairbanks AK, Jolene and Carl Ericson of Happy Valley, David and Norma Scovell of Eugene, Mark and Dawn Scovell of Belton TX; and 15 grandchildren, Laura, Jon, Tami, Eric, Pat, Jackie, Shannon, Kyle, Courtney, Derek, Daniel, Micah, Jon, Joseph and Jeremy. Joe also enjoyed his 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in passing by his brothers, Robert, Roy, Thomas and John. He will be greatly missed by all his family and their wide circle of friends. A celebration of Joe's life will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at the Turner Christian Church, 7871 Marion Rd SE, Turner, OR 97392.
