October 5, 1948 - August 17, 2014
Born Linda Teston on October 5, 1948 in Stockton CA, Linda was 65 years old. Linda died in Pacific Grove CA while spending the summer with her sister Evelyn Minneci.
At the age of 1 year, Linda moved to Salem Oregon with her father Stanley Teston, mother Alice Owen-Teston and her siblings Olen and Evelyn. Linda called Salem home for most of her life, starting on Ewald Street where her boundless energy was spent romping in fields and chasing down neighboring friends. She enjoyed attending Salem Academy and later South Salem High School where she participated in cheerleading and many other school activities.
Soon after graduation, Linda worked for State Farm Insurance. She fell in love with the witty and endearing Robert Jackson. They were married from 1967 - 2002 and shared the joy of raising three children. While briefly living in McMinnville OR in 1969, twins Julie and Janai were born. In 1971, back in Salem, Robert C. was born. Linda worked at times for KBZY radio station, as a wedding florist, and at the Head Start program. She was tremendously active in community activities, but even more so in mothering her children.
Linda was athletic and energetic, and she enjoyed many years of fun and friendship with a tennis group and a volleyball team. Always the picture of perfection with natural beauty and impeccable fashion and appearance, Linda took pride in cultivating flowers and cherished time with family and friends.
In 1985, at the age of 36, Linda was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and underwent surgery and treatments. At the age of 39, Linda's cancer returned and she spent the next 26 years in stages of treatment, remission and further treatment. As a result of these experiences, Linda invented and designed post-mastectomy garments and in 1990 she formed a manufacturing and retail business that she led for 25 years to serve women around the world.
Linda became a grandmother in 2005 and again in 2006 when daughter Julie and husband Corey welcomed Alexander and Cameron. Linda was deeply loved by her family and her many friends. She touched so many lives through her life's journey and was appreciated and admired for her tremendous compassion, bright spirit, sincerity and natural grace.
Linda was preceded in death by her former husband Robert, and is survived by her sister Evelyn Minneci, brother Olen Teston, three children and two grandchildren.
A memorial celebration will be held in Salem at 1pm on Friday September 5th at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Linda has asked that memorial contributions be made to a fund in her name serving women and families with extraordinary challenges who are facing the journey through breast cancer.
