RUTH PLUMMER HANSEN, 96, of Dallas died August 24, 2014. She was born April 30, 1918 on Orchard Knob Road, three miles north of Dallas to Louis W. & Emma Plummer. She was the youngest of 3 girls.

She grew up in Dallas graduating from Dallas High School in 1935. She went to Oregon State College getting a degree of BSS in Secretarial Science.

She met her husband, John, when they were freshmen at Oregon State. They were married in 1940 and both graduated in 1941. They moved to Salem where they both had jobs. Ruth quit her secretary job at Western Paper Converting Co. the summer of 1942, shortly before their first son was born. In 1943, they moved to Albany where her husband was 4-H Agent in Linn County for Oregon State University Extension Service for six years. In 1949, they moved to Dallas where her husband was promoted to chairman of the Polk County Extension Service office.

After both of their boys were in high school, Ruth went back to work. She worked for Polk County Savings & Loan, which later became Family Federal Savings & Loan, retiring in 1985.

She enjoyed reading, working in their yard and traveling. She and her husband organized and escorted Agriculture study tours to New Zealand & Australia, China, South America and most of the European countries. They have been in 75 countries and all 50 states. She volunteered at the Delbert Hunter Arboretum on the Tuesday work days, and also as secretary of the Arboretum Trust Fund.

Survivors include her husband John, sons Tom (wife Barbara), Jim (wife Gail), 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11:00am Saturday, August 30th in the First Presbyterian Church in Dallas. Private interment will be in the Dallas Cemetery. Memorial contribution suggestions are to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the Delbert Hunter Arboretum Trust Fund in care of the Dallas Mortuary at 287 SW Washington St. Dallas, Oregon 97338.
