Walter Jack Larson
July 6, 1920 - June 11, 2011
KEIZER - Walter J. (Jack) Larson, long-time resident of Keizer, Oregon, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2011 at the age of 90.
Jack was born in Portland, Oregon, on July 6,1920 to Dr. Walter J. Larson and Julia Nixon Larson. Jack attended Duniway Grade School and later graduated from Washington High School. In 1948, he graduated from the University of Portland, and in 1952 from Northwestern College of Law (now the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College). In 1970, the School of Law awarded him a Juris Doctor Degree.
During WWII he served with honor in the U.S. Army with the 17th Field Artillery Battalion in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Austria. He spent 30 months overseas and was awarded 7 Battle Stars.
In 1953, he married Lorraine Bowman, the love of his life, who survives him. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary Sept. 1,2010. Jack spent 25 years in State government, with stints in the State Treasurer's office, the Dept. of Revenue and as an inheritance tax examiner. Prior to this time he was a casualty insurance adjuster in the Portland and Salem areas.
He retired in November 1981 to surround himself with the things he loved: family and gardening. There was no easy way of hiding Jack's love of gardening. Each spring, thousands of daffodils and an endless array of colorful flowers transformed the family home into an acre of beautiful gardens, and a showcase for the local neighborhood to enjoy.
Jack was a member of Delta Theta Phi law fraternity. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 136, V.F.W. Post 661 and 17th Field Artillery Association.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; son, Jack Larson, Puako, Hawai'i; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Bill Stabler, Salem, Oregon; granddaughter and her husband, Danielle and Noel Kinder, Aurora, Oregon; grandson and his wife, Jesse and Tiffany Stafford, Aurora, Oregon and five great grandchildren.
Jack was an honest, kind and generous man who leaves behind a loving and healthy family to carry on. He will be missed by all who knew him. He has requested no funeral service and that he be cremated.
Keizer Funeral Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
