Carol Davis Obituary

November 2, 1939 - July 30, 2012

DALLAS - The Lord called Carol home suddenly and unexpectedly on July 30, 2012. She was the ultimate cancer fighter and had finally succumbed to the effects of the disease. She had made this a personal battle for over 20 years, losing occasionally, but always fighting. She was one "tough little lady".

Carol was born in Aberdeen, WA on November 2, 1939. She graduated from Raymond High School in 1957 and went on to college at Oregon State. She found the love of her life while in college, marrying John Davis in 1959. They had a wonderful 53 years together. Together they had 2 children, Jeff and Jill. Jill brought Carol three grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Upon graduating from college she began her teaching career, primarily at the third grade. Carol taught in Albany, Raymond, and over 20 years in the Dallas School District at both Whitworth and Lyle Elementary Schools. Teaching children to think and to be aware of the world was always her objective. Carol created a new learning program in oceanography, making learning fun. She retired from education in 1996 to join her husband in the travel business. They traveled extensively, primarily to Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean, meeting new people as they traveled.

She was very involved in church activities at the local and diocesan level; member of the Altar Guild at St. Thomas Episcopal Church for over 20 years, member of the Diocesan Council for 4 years, and a member of Mission and Ministry Commission for several years. Carol was always willing to participate in new activities and assist with programs that involved children. She was also a director of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, and was currently serving on the Dallas Cemetery Board.

She is survived by her husband, John Davis, of Dallas, and her son Jeff (SueAnn) Davis, of Vancouver, WA, and her daughter Jill (Mark) Cavender, of Dallas. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Matt, Mitch, and Stefani Cavender. Carol is also survived by her brother Gary (Cecelia) Dennis, of Raymond, WA.

The memorial service is planned for Thursday, August 9th at 3:00PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions are suggested in lieu of flowers to St. Thomas Episcopal Church or the St. Jude's Children Hospital, in care of Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center, who is handling the arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at

May light perpetual shine upon her

in God's nearer presence.
