SALEM - Ernie Stroup was born in Brooklyn, Illinois and raised in Butte, Montana. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served his country for four years. Upon his return, he graduated from Jefferson County High School in Boulder, MT.

Ernie attended both the Montana School of Mines in Butte, Montana and Oregon College of Education, where he earned his degree in Education. He worked at Hillcrest School of Oregon for 30 years and was known for his jokes. He loved working with the kids and making people laugh. He usually ended his conversations with, "Have a fun day."

Ernie had many interests and his toy collection included a boat, motorcycles, and several cars. He enjoyed working on his cars, playing the guitar, singing, playing pool, "dinkin' around," and "shootin' the bull."

Pops, you were not only my dad, you were my friend and mentor. We will miss you, but you will always be with us in spirit.
