Donald Jerome O'Connor

March 10, 1933 - January 8, 2013

SALEM - Don was born to Francis and Emma O'Connor in Mankato, Minnesota one of 13 children. As a young boy his family moved to Stayton, Oregon where lived until joining the Navy in 1953. He was proud of is service as a Navy Seabee. Upon his return he began his career as a plumber, starting a longtime membership with Local 290. He married and moved to Salem in 1960.

Don was a supporter of youth athletics. He was one of the founding members of the Salem Boy's Club and Parrish Little League. Don attended many games and events, befriending many athletes and parents.

Don was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, sons Robert, Mike, Todd, Mark; daughters Denise Foster, Teri Gill, Kellea Tompkins, and 12 grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Friday January 11th, from 2 - 4pm at City View Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12th, 1:30pm, at St. Joseph's Church in Salem. A celebration of life will be held immediately after at the St. Josephs Parrish Center. A private interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests, if you wish, memorial donations may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice, 1015 3rd Street NW Salem Oregon 97304. Condolences for the family may be offered on Don's Facebook account.
