Ethelin Rosa Hill

October 18, 1920 - February 7, 2013

SALEM - Ethelin Rosa (Bowser) Hill was born Oct. 18, 1920 to Lee Roy Bowser and Blanche Bowser in Cereal, AB, Canada; she was the ninth of ten children. When she was 19, Ethel moved to Seaside, OR with her Mother.

It was three years later that she met and married Arnold Svande Hill on October 24, 1943. As the years passed their first three children were born while they resided in Seaside, OR: Laura Lee Hill, Victor Hugo Hill, and Marvin Dale Hill. They moved to Powers, OR, in 1951 where Arnold took a trucking job and the rest of the family were born: Russel Wayne Hill, Gaye Marie (Hill) McCabe and Linda Anne (Hill) Burrows.

It was in the small community of Powers where the family made life long connections through involvement in the school and church life. Arnold, Ethel, Gaye and Linda moved to Brookings OR in 1973. She proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1981 after many hours of study. In 1988, Arnold and Ethel made their final move to Salem to be close to their much expanded family.

They celebrated 61 years together in October, 2004. Arnold preceded Ethelin to their Heavenly home on October 5, 2005.

For Ethel, her relationship with God and Family was in her every thought - in every plan - in every desire. Just like her own Mother, she was a totally devoted mother and servant of God, who gave generously of her love, and time, patience and earthly goods, putting herself last on the list of priorities. Ethel was hospitable and was well known for her good cooking and wonderful baking as she gathered crowds together in their home to join family celebrations. Ethel was a lifelong gardener and enjoyed various needle crafts. In Powers, she was sought after to sew many dresses for a variety of special occasions. She was especially proud of the 150 blue ribbons she won at the Curry County Fair in one year with her many entries.

She passed on to her children her values and work ethics of doing your best, being the most dependable and always producing the most skilled work that could be expected, generally exceeding expectations.

Ethel was intensely proud of her children, her 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother was the hub of family life and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a consistent influence for good, wherever she went. She entered into full everlasting joy with her Heavenly Father on the 7th day of February, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to Serenity Palliatibe Care and Hospice, 285 Liberty St NE Suite #320, Salem OR 97301, 1-855-839-0600.
