SALEM - LaVelle Gwynn passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday morning, February 20th with her family by her side. She is in the presence of the Lord after a brief illness with cancer.
She was born on May 9, 1926 in Salem, Oregon to Lee and Edith (Swanson) Cross. She had one sister, Laurine . LaVelle graduated from Salem High School and was active as a teenager at the First Baptist Church. While working as a secretary at the Christian Youth Center in Salem, she met Keith Gwynn. They married on October 24, 1947 and were married for 65 years. She was active in the Salem First Nazarene Church and served many years on the Church Board. She was employed as a secretary for the Association of Oregon Counties for 30 years before retiring in 1987.
Her life was dedicated to her Lord and then to her family. Some of her favorite times were spent with her husband, children and grandchildren at the Oregon Coast and camping and fishing at Diamond Lake.
LaVelle was preceded in death by her infant son, Randy in 1950 and sister, Laurine DeLapp, in 2001. She is survived by her husband, Keith, daughter, Sharon and son Tom (Beth); grandchildren, Stacey Mathers, Chris Gwynn (Carlie) and Courtney Gwynn; and one great-grandson, Lane Gwynn.
A memorial service will be held at the Salem First Nazarene Church (1550 Market Street) on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salem First Nazarene Church "new kitchen" fund. Arrangements by Restlawn Funeral Home.
