KEIZER - Luella Jean English, 67, died peacefully at home after battling lung cancer for 15 months.
Luella Marsellis was born in La Grande, Or. She is survived by husband, Reid; daughter, Shelley Bunnell, Salem; sisters Mary Teigen (Bryan), Salem; Shirley McGrath, Flint, Mi.; and Doris Aldridge (Ellis), Oklahoma City, OK.; brother, Lyle Marsellis (Mary Ella), Tulsa, Ok. Brother Merle Marsellis, died in 2006. Her mother, Ellen Lapin, died in 1995.
Luella was well known and loved in Keizer, first helping in the nursery at Town & Country Bowling Lanes, to Fred Meyer working her way through Phagan's Beauty School to Marie's Empress Beauty Salon where she quickly established a loyal clientele, but was forced to leave as a result of severe skin allergies to the chemicals, and back to Fred Meyer where she became the Cosmetics Department Sectionhead, and retired thirty years later.
Luella enjoyed life and people. She had friends throughout Salem and Keizer from all walks of life. She was known for her sarcastic sense of humor and her kind and generous heart.
Her love of people made her a favorite everywhere she went, and she gave back to her community volunteering for the Keizer Iris parade, Special Olympics, and Meals On Wheels.
Luella enjoyed many things like books, movies and traveling, but especially music and dancing, attending the symphony and theater, and various sporting events including local schools, Volcanoes' baseball and Oregon Ducks football. She was an expert seamstress and avid gardener. She could often be found tending her everblooming rose garden.
She was an exceptionally loving wife and mother, and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Memorial service is 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 17th, at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday.
