Kenneth Gerald "Jerry" Simpson

April 18, 1945 - April 19, 2013

SILVERTON - Jerry, 68, died April 19, 2013 at Salem Hospital from complications of an illness. Jerry was born in Silverton, the eighth of ten children born to Jesse and Cora Simpson. He was the first of their children to have been born in a hospital. His family was at his side at the time of his death.

He is survived by his daughters Tammy Hammond (Alfonso) of California and Cheryl Priano (John) of Connecticut, and three granddaughters, Alexis, Elizabeth, and Marissa. Jerry is also survived by six of his sisters; Alice Wilson, Pearl Bruton, Ella Dean Higley (Mark), Aileen Sawyers, Jane Bruce (Larry), and Judy Nelson (Bruce) and a brother, Don Simpson of Montana.

He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, his older brother Tommy (Barbara) and his sister Shirley Antonson (Jerry).

He was a member of Silverton High's class of 1963. After high school Jerry worked as a meat cutter for a time. Later he and a friend owned and operated their own auto body and repair business. He then worked as a timber faller for many years before his retirement.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 26, 2013 at 3 p.m. at St. Edward's Episcopal Church, 211 W. Center St. Silverton.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to The Silverton Hospital Foundation, 342 Fairview St. Silverton, 97381 or The Salem Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 14001, Salem 97309. Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.
