SALEM - Michael Ray Smith died in his home on May 4, 2013, at the age of 63. He was born in Salem, Oregon on August 31, 1949. His parents were Roberta Ruth Murray Smith and Raymond Leroy Smith. He grew up in Salem where he attended school and worked in the farmers' fields as a young person. At the age of 17 he enlisted into the United States Army and he served 2 tours in Viet Nam. He serve his country for 20 years attached to various Engineering Units and retired out from service at the age of 38 with a rank of Sergeant First Class. In his civilian life he worked as an Electrical Line man for several years and most recently he worked locally in the plumbing department for the Home Depot, and had been with Home Depot for 14 years. His hobbies included boating, fishing, hiking and square dancing. He leaves behind his wife, Laurie Hubbell-Smith, DC, 5 grown children, Gina, Michael Jr., Tanya, Bryan and Vernon. He had 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, May 8th at 6:00 PM at City View Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home.
