Thomas G. Meier

October 15, 1940 - May 4, 2013

SALEM - Thomas George Meier, 72, passed away on May 4th, 2013 at Salem Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on October 15, 1940 in Palatine, Illinois to George and Eleanor Meier.

Tom moved with his family from Illinois to Oregon in 1945 to the north Albany area, where he attended school until his junior year. Tom and his family then moved to Scio, Oregon where he graduated from Scio High School in 1958. After high school he joined the United States Army in the fall of 1958 and served for 4 years. He was honorably discharged in 1962.

He worked several construction jobs and then began work for ODOT as a heavy machinery mechanic where he worked from 1977 until he retired in 2002.

Tom married Judy Kay on December 7th 1963 in Mill City, Oregon. They were happily married for 49 years. He loved his family and enjoyed his time with them, camping, vacationing, and just being with them. He also enjoyed going skiing, hiking and fishing with his close friends.

Tom was a loving, caring, warm hearted father, husband, and friend to everyone and will be missed dearly by his family.

Tom was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly, his parents, and his sister Shirley Hilderbrandt.

Tom is survived by his wife Judy of Salem; his son Troy (Denise) Meier of Salem, and son Mark Meier of Salem; his sister June (Ron) Lott of Chubbuck, Idaho, sister Sharon Parker of Klamath Falls; his grandchildren Kayla, Kyle, and Paige Meier; and his nieces and nephews and other loved ones including his dog Tinkerbell.

A memorial service will be held at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial St. SE, Salem, OR 97301 at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 18th, 2013.
