SALEM - Robert "Bob" Matuska, age 80, died suddenly Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from a massive stroke.
Bob was born to Anna and Michael Matuska in Whiting, Indiana. He attended George Rogers Clark High School in Whiting. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he attended Purdue University where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering and a Masters of Engineering Science. He married Phyllis Micoley in 1957. Bob's career in Integrated Circuits and Silicon Manufacturing took him from Kokomo, Indiana, to the Silicon Valley in California and then to Salem, Oregon. He saw the development of integrated circuits and silicon wafers from its earliest days to the 1990s.
He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis, sister Bettye Kragel (Martin, deceased) Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother Edward Matuska (Marge deceased), Valparaiso, Indiana; sister-in-law Vera (Dennis, deceased) Matuska; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Dennis Matuska; sister Anne Cigas (Mike); sister Margaret Veslocki (Mike) and Mary Hajduk (Mike). Bob was a member of St. Joseph parish. A funeral mass was held Monday, June 24 at 1:30 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salem, OR. Any contributions can be made to the
