Robert Dean King
June 5, 1943 - July 31, 2013
It is with deep sadness, respect and love that the family announces the passing of Robert Dean King. Robert (Bob) was born on June 5, 1943 in Vancouver, WA, the second child to Donald and Ernestine King. He left us peacefully on July 31, 2013.
After high school, Bob attended Boise State Junior College before serving his country in the United States Navy and in the Vietnam War (U.S.S. Galveston). He then attended and graduated from Boise State University in 1965.
He moved to Detroit, Michigan, attended Wayne State University and traveled back to Boise to marry his first love, Gioia Lelia Santo, in April, 1969. Bob and Gioia were ecstatic to be blessed by their first child, Danae Christine, in 1972, and followed two years later by their son, Robert Daniel. By this time, Bob had started his life-long career in public service with Wayne State University as a police officer, achieving the Rank of Lieutenant. He graduated with his Masters Degree in Public Administration. An opportunity with Corvallis Police Department arose, and Bob and Gioia decided to move their two children to Oregon in 1976. In 1978 Bob was hired to the Board of Police Standards and Training (BPST), moved to Salem, and retired in 1997 as the business manager.
Bob raised his kids with the understanding of the importance of friends, family and education. Bob was very involved in all of his children's activities; he coached and served several years on the board for the West Salem Little League. The circle of friends Bob and Gioia made became their extended family. Bob stood by Gioia every step during her long battle with breast cancer and lost her in 1997.
Robert was blessed to find love again and married Theresa Martin in September of 1999. Robert enjoyed his retired life by creating their home in Keizer, and traveling with Theresa. He never missed an opportunity to jump on a cruise ship and head to sunny warm weather!
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; daughter Danae (Richard) Hammitt; son Robert King; grandchildren Joel (Elizabeth), Katy (Jeffrey), Kyle, and Danyel Hammitt; and Paige and Jace King; great-grandsons Bently Hammitt and Travis and Bradlee Maddox; brothers Bill (Judy), and John (Lea) King; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jamie, and sister, Donna Jo.
Robert will be laid to rest at Willamette National Veteran's Cemetery with a private ceremony and celebration of life.
Arrangements by Keizer Funeral Chapel.
