William A. Mulligan (Bill)
June 2, 1923 - August 5, 2013
William A. Mulligan, 90, of Newberg, OR passed away August 5, 2013 surrounded by his children. He was born June 2, 1923 to William J. Mulligan and Kathryn I. Moran and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945 during WWII, as a firefighter on the flight deck of the U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier. He was proud of being awarded numerous medals for his service.
Married for 65 years, Bill married Marcella J. Novotny on September 22, 1945 in Salem, Oregon and lived in Salem, Keizer, Corvallis and Newberg, OR. Bill was a pipefitter for 42 years, retiring in 1986.
Besides loving his wife and family, Bill was a friendly, hardworking,industrious man who was always willing to help others with plumbing, woodworking or other household projects.
Bill will be greatly missed by his children: Carol Young (Dave) of Corvallis, Chris Mulligan (Jim Bellah) of Newberg, Scott Mulligan (Diane) of West Linn, and Dan Mulligan (Geneva Lamb) of St. Paul; grandchildren Kelly Young-Seidel (Andrew), Shannon Martin (Aaron), Tracy Cook (Josh) and Tyler Herigstad; great-grandchildren Jackson Pinion, Brennan Martin, Holden and Miles Seidel, Jordan and Keira Cook; sister Harriett Philpott, and six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marcella in 2010 and grandson Zachary Herigstad in 2000.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Avamere Assisted Living Facility, 730 Foothills Drive in Newberg.
