November 14, 1928 - July 25, 2013
Harold H. Wagner went home to be with the Lord on July 25, 2013. He was born on November 14, 1928 to Monta and Harley Wagner in Forsyth, Montana.
Harold was proud to be a Korean War Veteran and later served in the army reserves. He was an expert heavy equipment operator and worked in Montana, Venezuela, and Canada. On April 27, 1958, he married Rita Hogan and became step-dad to her daughter, Norma. (age 6) Their daughter Laurie was born on September 21, 1959.
Harold was always a hard worker. He loved his family and provided well for them. He owned and operated "Wagner Excavating" for over 25 years. Later he and his faithful dog traveled many miles together for his "hot shot" trucking business.
Harold loved to go hunting and fishing every chance he got! In 1973, he earned his pilot's license and co-owned a small plane. Harold was an avid reader and especially interested in Montana history. Harold and Rita belonged to the Five Valley Accordion Club and enjoyed traveling to Kimberly, Canada for the International Accordion Championships.
It was especially hard for Harold when they needed to relocate due to health issues. They moved to Salem, Oregon to be closer to Laurie and her husband, Evan. Harold always thought of Montana as "home". Thankfully he was able to make several trips there to visit family and friends. He always brought back special memories and it wasn't long before he was planning his next trip.
Harold was a "fighter" and remained active in spite of being on dialysis the past 5 years. He was fiercely independent his whole life and perhaps a "little rough around the edges". But those who got to know and love him knew he had a softer side. As adults, Harold and Rita accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. Laurie and Evan will always treasure having Harold faithfully attend church and Bible study with them.
Harold is survived by his brother, Warren of Yakima, WA, his daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Evan Lehman of Salem, OR., daughter Norma Kastella of Missoula, Mt. Harold was also blessed by his grandchildren, Davin and Kate Kastella of Whitefish, Mt and Kim and Jon Rasca of Salem, OR. His great-grandchildren Derek and Payton Kastella and Nina and Luke Rasca always brought a smile to his face. Online condolences can be left at www.macyandson.com
