April 20, 1955 - October 9, 2013
Randee Nafziger passed away at a Portland hospital on October 9, 2013.
Randee Lee Spriggs was born April 20, 1955 in Spokane, WA. She was unhappy her entire life with her parents for not being born in Oregon as her sisters were. She moved to Oregon at the age of 1 month. At age 5 she found she was listed as a boy on her original birth certificate, prompting her parents to correct the certificate to a girl and change the spelling of her name from Randy to Randee, the draft was still in effect at the time and her parents thought it would be embarrassing if she was drafted. Randee was raised in Eugene and Brookings, where she attended high school. She worked in the hospitality industry mostly as a waitress and bartender. She married her best friend Douglas Nafziger on August 24, 1991 in Tigard Oregon. They moved to Estacada in 1995. Randee worked at the Cazadero Inn and later for the Country Restaurant and Lounge where she retired 12 years ago to raise her granddaughter.
Randee enjoyed cooking, canning, rafting, camping, entertaining, catering, wine tasting, collecting shot glasses from all over the world, the color purple, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. She was into sports big time following her son Roger and later her grandson Hunter to all their baseball games. At work if someone had a question about anything involving baseball, basketball, football, or Nascar it was said to call "little Randee" she always had the answer. Randee and Doug enjoyed camping and hunting together although she was especially pleased at having the biggest elk trophy.
She is survived by her husband, Doug; son, Roger (Michelle) Spriggs of Tigard; daughter, Staci Carney of Portland; mother, Oma Spriggs of Keizer; grandchildren, Desee Nafziger of Estacada, Hunter Spriggs and Easton Spriggs of Tigard; sisters, Rae (Dan) Donnelly of Bend and Marla (Kim) Batchelor of Salem; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Leland Spriggs.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Salem Elks Lodge, 2336 Turner Road SE. Salem, Oregon 97302. In honor of Randee please wear something purple.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Salem Elks Children's Eye Clinic.
