December 11, 1946 - January 9, 2014

SALEM - Edward Alan Sheehan Sr., passed away on January 9, 2014, in his home surrounded by family, at the age of 67. He was born December 11, 1946 in San Mateo, California to Edward and Lois Sheehan.

Ed was raised in California and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he survived Hamburger Hill and earned a silver star, a bronze star and a purple heart. Serving this country and fighting for our freedom with much heart felt honor and glory was a part of who he was. Ed married Kathleen Cunial and this is where they began the journey as a couple for 45 years. He worked as a deputy with San Mateo County Sheriff's office and after moving to Salem in 1978, worked for the department of Corrections. Ed was a maintenance foreman for a grocery store before he and Kathleen started their business ventures, the latest being Sheehan's Classy Cruisers medical transport.

Ed had been an Eagle Scout and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved football, trains and wood working. Ed was a devoted husband and father, he and his wife fostered and sheltered over two hundred needy children. Ed being Irish had a gift of gab, he was very proud to tell anyone he encountered about the Historic Harriet House where they purchased and operated Julias Tea Parlour.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen, son Edward Sheehan Jr, and his wife Kirsten, daughter Michelle Brady, son Aaron Sheehan and daughter Angela Sheehan; six grandchildren, and many very special brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces and nephews.

An Old Irish Blessing:

"May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind always be at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

and rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand."
