John Knott Obituary
John W. Knott

April 1, 1936 - January 19, 2014

John passed away quietly with his entire family by his side. He was born in Omaha, NE to Donald and Alice Knott.

He attended the University of Colorado and graduated with a degree in Business and Finance. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and President of the School of Business. After fulfilling his military commitment, he began his 17 year career with IBM in sales and management.

His IBM career took his family from Colorado to Utah, California, Portland and Salem. Upon deciding to settle in Salem, John enjoyed working for a variety of local firms, as well as conducting sales management seminars across the country. He retired in 2003.

Always one who loved people, John was very involved in his community. He served on the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and Illahe Hills Country Club. He served as President of the United Way of Oregon and two terms as President of the Salem Hospital Foundation Board.

John was a man of integrity and a loving husband and father. He enjoyed golf, entertaining friends, planning family trips and building the family vacation home at Black Butte Ranch. There are many great memories of travel with family and friends. Despite all of his business travel, he never missed his children's events.

John is survived by his wife, Kay, daughters Tracy Dudek (Dave) and grandsons Casey and Michael, Holly Andrus (Ed), and Marcy Bernhardt (Nathan) and his twin granddaughters Lucy and Elsa.

The memorial service will be held on Friday, January 24th at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church, reception to follow at Illahe Hills Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Salem Hospital Foundation, PO Box 14001, Salem, OR 97309 or Layton Aging and Alzheimer's Disease Center, 3303 SW Bond Ave. Portland, OR 97239.
