Thomas Benjamin Manz

December 26, 1946 - March 28, 2014

SILVERTON - Thomas Benjamin Manz, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at Davenport Place Assisted Living Center in Silverton after an extended illness from Parkinsonism.

Tom was born on December 26, 1946 in Galena, Illinois, the son of Charles and Kathleen (Marsden) Manz. He was united in marriage to a hometown sweetheart, Lenore Roth, on January 14, 1967.

Following studies at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa he was recruited by the Chicago, Illinois office of the accounting firm, Price Waterhouse. After three years he transferred to their Portland, Oregon office. During the course of his career he held positions in several companies, eventually serving as Business Director of the Archdiocese of Portland, and later as Chief Financial Officer of Morrow Equipment Company in Salem.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Lenore; daughters Jennifer Dunagan and Sarah (Shawn) Zander of Silverton; brother, Michael (Sheila Crehan) of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada; sisters Lisa Wullweber of Edgewood, Iowa, and Mary (Norman) Davis of Galena, Illinois; and Silverton grandchildren Weston, Katie and Grace Zander; and Riley and Ryan Dunagan. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Robert.

While in good health he enjoyed camping, hiking, backpacking, and successfully climbed the 12,276 foot summit of Mt. Adams in Washington state. He was skilled in the game of golf enjoying the accomplishment of several hole-in-ones. He was an avid reader until the last morning of his life. Tom's British, dry sense of humor and repartee will be missed by his family and friends.

Tom's family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Davenport Place for their care of him during the last 6 months. He died as he lived in quiet grace and dignity.

Visitation will be held at Unger Funeral Chapel, 229 Mill St., Silverton on Thursday, April 3 from 5-8 pm. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Friday, April 4, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1410 Pine St., Silverton.
