December 16, 1932 - April 15, 2014
James Oliver "Mac" McPartland died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at home with his family. He was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. Following graduation from Reno High School, he joined the U. S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean War as a corporal in the Air-Naval Gunfire Liaison Company. He graduated from University of Nevada, Reno, with a BS in Electrical Engineering with post-graduate work at the University of Washington. Mac worked in the nuclear energy industry as an engineer and scientist. He holds a U.S. patent for a "Thermo-Electric Nuclear Fuel Element".
Mac has been happily married to Vincenza "Jancy" DiSalvo since November 26, 1977. He has four devoted children from a prior marriage, Cathy, Stanley, Jeff and Maggie, as well as five stepchildren, Debby, Loree, Dona, Linda and Ken. He has ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and the beautiful Bella Mia, his loyal black lab.
Mac was affectionately known as the Irishman and will be remembered for his sense of humor, booming voice, incredible kindness and love of the outdoors and animals. He loved fishing with his kids and grandkids. Mac was more farmer than scientist - loving to garden. As an avid sports fan, if there was a ballgame on, he'd be listening to it or watching it. He was a very special man who touched the hearts of many people.
A celebration of life gathering will take place at the family home on Saturday, April 19, at 2:00 p.m.
