Patrick Thomas Finnegan

March 11, 1927 - June 3, 2014

Patrick Thomas Finnegan, age 87, died at his home on June 3, 2014. Pat was born on March 11, 1927 to Charles Finnegan and Myra Kohler Finnegan in Marinette, Wisconsin. Pat was raised on a farm and joined the Navy after high school graduation. He served two tours of duty in the US Navy. The first was in 1944 after he graduated from high school in Crivitz, Wisconsin, including time on an LST, and a brief stint on a submarine, working on engines. After a second tour, during which his family moved to California, he landed in Boston, and hitchhiked across the country, visiting relatives, and enjoying seeing the country.

He went to diesel mechanic school in California, and worked at many jobs, including time as a mechanic, and many years driving a truck. In 1956 he married Alice Troyer. They lived in Pacific Grove, California, then Seattle, Washington, and moved to Salem, Oregon in 1963, where they raised their family.

After retirement they moved to Florence, Oregon, then to Otis, Oregon, and then settled on two acres near Albany, Oregon. Hobbies included hunting, wood working, writing letters, refinishing furniture, road trips, and reading.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alice, and brother Dennis Finnegan. Survivors include daughters Kathleen Johnson and husband Terry of Seaside, Oregon, Erin Stone and husband David of Salem, Oregon, and son Tim Finnegan and wife Sue of Monmouth, Oregon, grandsons Russell Whitaker and wife Megan, Justin Whitaker, Adam Stone, Patrick Stone and fiancé Arianna Fenton, Peter Finnegan, and Ben Finnegan, brother Jerry Finnegan of Stockton, California, sister Jeanne Tovey of Brazil, Indiana, sister in law Marietta Finnegan of Santa Cruz, California, and 26 nieces and nephews.
