Douglas Foss Obituary

Douglas Glenn Foss

June 11, 1949 - August 6, 2015

Doug passed away peacefully in his sleep with family by his side. He was born in San Francisco, CA to Alice Gertrude (Noack) and Harry Carson Foss.

Doug graduated from Serra High School in San Mateo, CA and proudly continued his family's tradition of military service by joining US Army as a Military Police Officer. Additionally Doug served as gunner in a River Patrol Boat (PBR) in Vietnam from 1968-1970. Following an honorable discharge from the Army in 1971, Doug joined the San Francisco Police Department. Doug spent the majority of his 32 years (1971-2003) in the SFPD as a Motorcycle Officer.

He was a dedicated member of the Elks National Foundation for over 30 years. As a result of his tireless dedication to the Elks he was elected as the Exalted Ruler for the Salem Elks Lodge for both 2009 and 2010.

Doug will be remembered for his lifetime love of motorcycles and admired for his generous and loyal nature.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Kathleen and son John.

Doug is survived by his wife Anna Foss, daughter Shelley Goodwin, son Joseph Foss, and multiple grandchildren.

A Rosary service will be at 1:30 PM followed by Memorial Mass at 2:00 PM today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 721 Chemeketa St. NE. A graveside service will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, August 14 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, California. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.

My condolences to the family. I will always treasure the memories working with Doug in the Solo Unit. I learned important tips from him and he always had time to listen to my Big Time Wrestling stories.

He will be missed.

How we wish we could have been there. Dad would have wanted that us much as we. Uncle Doug's impact on our lives was monumental. No words can describe how much we love and miss him. There was no man like him in the world. His laugh was just like dad's laugh. He loved and included us, even with dad gone. He was more of a big brother than an uncle. No sense of humour equaled his. We love you Uncle Ken, Aunt Sharon, Joey, Shelley, Aunt Anna. We are always here, even in distance, always in our hearts. Love is forever. Family is forever. Love from Donna, Tamie, Jade, Jagger, Ashleigh, Dakota, Jack, and your grateful niece, Lori.
