
Christine Hayden STATESVILLE Mrs. Eliza Christine Chambers Hayden, 94, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, unexpectedly. She was born in Rowan County, April 16, 1918, and was the daughter of the late Emmanuel and Gracie Chambers. She was married to Obie Dye Hayden, who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Frankie Lee Hayden and Otis William Hayden; a daughter-in-law, Mary Diggs Hayden; and one brother, Robert Chambers, Sr. She was a graduate of Morningside and a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, one son, Jerry (Shirley K.) Hayden, of Statesville; two daughters, Shirley Hayden and Shelia (Albert) Gaines, both of Statesville; a daughter-in-law, Veola B. Hayden, of Statesville; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grand-children; and a host of nieces and nephews including, Robert Ernest Chambers, Jr. and Ronald (Dorothy) Nesbit, cousins, others relatives, church family, neighbors, and friends. The Celebration of Life services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Calvary Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Timothy Bates will officiate and burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Mrs. Hayden will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 10:30 a.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 11 to 11:30 a.m., prior to service, but will assemble at the residence at other times.
